A Brand Plucked from the Fire: An Autobiographical Sketch
by Julia A. J. Foote
Julia A. J. Foote (1823-1900), born free in Schenectady, New York, to parents who had purchased their own freedom, recounts her conversion at fifteen and her life as a preacher in the AME Zion Church. She would later become the first woman ordained deacon in that denomination.
The changed life
After a vision of the Trinity, Foote became a leader of the Wesleyan-Holiness movement, proclaiming entire sanctification and defying the opposition she had once shared toward women preaching.
