A Brief Account of the Life, Experience, Travels, and Gospel Labours of George White, an African: Written by Himself

by George White

George White, born in 1764 to an enslaved mother in Accomack County, Virginia, was enslaved in Virginia and Maryland before gaining freedom on his master's death. His narrative recounts his bondage, conversion, and gospel labors across New York and the Mid-Atlantic.

The changed life

White underwent a Methodist conversion around 1791 and experienced sanctification in 1806, and after repeated denials was licensed to preach in 1807, calling hearers to repentance and new life in Christ.
