Zilpha Elaw, born to a free Black family near Philadelphia around 1790, recounts her itinerant ministry across the American North and South, including among enslaved communities, and later through England. The full title names her "an American Female of Colour."
The changed life
Following a vision of Jesus, Elaw joined a Methodist society and later experienced sanctification, becoming an itinerant Holiness evangelist who preached boldly to multiracial audiences on both sides of the Atlantic.
