He was a priest inside one of its largest movements — fluent in the scriptures, kept for the platforms and the international tours, the example the organization pointed to. By every measure it used, the life was working. This is his account of what arrived in the middle of it, and of what leaving cost.
Why Rahil Patel became a Christian
Recruited by his guru at 16, he spent more than twenty years as a Hindu priest, the last of them at a temple in London, quietly fascinated by Jesus and doubting that his guru was divine. He left in 2011, and a few weeks later walked into a church in London and heard, as clear as a whisper, “You are home.”
“My heart said yes to Jesus, and I gave him my life.”
What it cost
Nearly everything he owned, though that came from leaving his order, before he became a Christian. He walked out with two shirts, two pairs of trousers and nowhere to live.
